The PGCSIF Clan - Building A Movement

Some of us here at the PGCSIF are big Wu-Tang Clan fans. Not only of their moniker pulled from our favorite martial arts films and their music, but the ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit that brought them together to create a movement. We were excited to watch the Showtime Series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men. What we saw was the power of idealism, brotherhood, and love all focused on the collective ownership of improving one's condition. For those of you who may not be aware of the Wu-Tang Clan aka the black Beatles (we deem that impossible but just in case) they were a collection of outsiders (9 members in one group) that bent the conventional parameters of hip hop in the 1990s and tackled an unfair music industry business model in favor of the artist. More on the Wu here.

So where are we going with this? We reach the peak of visibility and excitement this time of year as we have just celebrated our eighth cohort of 40 amazing Prince Georgians under the age of 40. As we keep emphasizing Forty UNDER 40 is outstanding but our platform goes beyond recognition. We are activating talent and creating a movement to benefit Prince George's County. So imagine what will happen when we take a collection of these amazing Prince Georgians and focus them on bending the conventional parameters of how we build the future of our beloved County.

The movement is ramped up and we are raising hell (not in a anti-christian way) with the flavor...

2019 Forty Under 40 Recap - Awards Feature Video

We had a great event on Tuesday May 14th! Thank you for all that were able to attend to help us celebrate our 2019 cohort. Honoree photos and bios are now available on our website. Every year we do a feature video and the buzz around the County this week was this year's "We Are Not Ward 9" video. This is also on our website. If you are looking for dope newsletter and video executive producers hit us up. Like mentioned in the opening of this newsletter we have this "flavor" thing on lock. :-)

TOMORROW May 18th - Innovate Prince George's
Prince George's Community College Edition

Innovate Prince George's is our shared platform to tell the stories, feature the organizations, and build a community around innovation and entrepreneurship which shapes the future of our beloved County. We believe a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship can reduce the outward commute, create a stronger local economy, create stronger families as parents working close to home can be more connected and engaged. This ultimately builds a stronger community.

We are partnering with the PGCC Center for Entrepreneurial Development and Training and  Inncuvate to feature the innovation assets at Prince George's Community College because we know community colleges play an ever-increasing role in helping companies and communities embrace innovation. This includes helping local governments rethink their communities, local companies rethink their products, and not-for-profit organizations rethink their services. Community colleges are often recognized for their contributions to workforce development but can be overlooked as supporters for startups and entrepreneurs.

The event is free and more details on the program will be updated on the eventbrite link. For any questions reach out to mark@inncuvate.com

June 9, 2018 - 1696 Pre Leasing Event

Some of you might remember our 1696 project pilot that we executed some years ago. Since then the co-working market has grown and we believe the next phase for us is a purposeful environment which creates more meaningful ways for County professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, and change makers come together.  1696 is our social innovation worklab, event, and co-working space. We are seeking input and engaging you all as we complete the planning and design. The movement needs a base of operations.

Please come out to Riverdale Park Station on June 9th at 3pm to let us know what you think. For more information please contact 1696pgc@inncuvate.com or kisha@innovateprincesgeorges.org or
