Bat influenza viruses: Making a double agent of MHC class II
Major histocompatibility complex class II has recently been identified as a cellular receptor for bat influenza viruses. This study discusses the possible implications of viral exploitation of this critical host defense molecule and highlight the need for more intense study of bat-influenza virus interactions. |

Research Coordinator Position for X-ray / CMCB Technician
The IIDR and the DBCAD have a position available for a research coordinator. The position will be shared between the Macromolecular Crystallography Facility and the CMCB. Duties in the Crystallography Facility include oversight of an X-ray diffractometer with single-crystal and SAXS capabilities, a crystallography liquid handler and imaging robotics for the setting-up and imaging of crystal trays, and protein purification systems. Duties in the CMCB will be related to equipment maintenance and training of facility users, as well as participation in contract research projects and other facility activities as needed. Life Sciences Ontario Scholarship Program Deadline: May 29th, 2020
Life Sciences Ontario (LSO), in collaboration with their 11 partners, have announced the expansion of the Life Sciences Ontario Scholarship Program. This program will award 37 undergraduate students, studying in fields that are linked to the employment footprint of the Life Sciences sector, a total value of $3000 for the 2020-2021 Fall / Winter term. Award recipients will participate in One-on-One Mentoring with an experienced professional within their field of study in the life sciences sector. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, NSERC is leveraging the expertise of researchers in natural science and engineering and their partners across Canada to address this unprecedented crisis. NSERC is providing up to $15 million in total support to stimulate collaborations between academic researchers and the public and not-for-profit sectors, and industry to address pandemic-related research and technical challenges.
