POLICY NEWS
On 7 June, the Commission published a proposal for a regulation establishing the ninth Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP9), which has been named “Horizon Europe” and will cover the period 2021-2027.
Austria, Finland and Sweden have signed the European Declaration on High Performance Computing (EuroHPC Declaration) announcing their intention to join the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
In June, both the European Economic and Social Committee and the Council of the European Union endorsed the the Commission’s proposal to establish the European High-Performance Computing (HPC) Joint Undertaking.
As part of the European Semester, which is intended to coordinate national economic policies, the EC has proposed health recommendations to 12 EU Member States.
On 26 April, the EC published a Communication on "enabling the digital transformation of health and care in the Digital Single Market; empowering citizens and building a healthier society”, including a set of measures to increase the availability of data in the EU.
On 19 June, the European Parliament and the European Commission agreed on new rules on the free flow of non-personal data, i.e. any data not related to an identified or identifiable person, such as anonymised data and machine to machine data.
VPH COMMUNITY
Special VPH issue in the ‘Morphologie Journal’ to present in silico medicine applications that have hit the clinics.
The EC Spanish National Contact point, Dr Juan Riese will present the funding opportunities for in silico medicine research in the next Framework Programme. A networking drink will follow. Registration is mandatory, book your seat now!
Prof. Annamaria Carusi (Medical Humanities, University of Sheffield) and the EC Joint Research Center co-organised a workshop entitled ‘Bridging across methods in biosciences (BEAMS)’ on 19 - 20 June 2018.
The first Nordic-Baltic Workshop of the VPHi was organised on 10th - 12th of June at Tampere University of Technology, in Finland.
A recent article presents the ten health innovations that could soon be on the NHS and it mentions some in silico medicine technologies developed by our UK members
The Journal Systems Medicine is an open access, peer reviewed journal focused on interdisciplinary approaches exploiting the power of big data by applying systems biology and network medicine. If you're interested to contribute a call for papers is now open.
The VPHi member Complexity Institute is currently looking for interested individuals to join the Virtual Singapore project team.

- The 3rd VPH Barcelona Summer School: another successful experience!
The 3rd VPH Summer School took place at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona from June 18th to June 22nd, 2018.
