| Gallery Grand Opening Oct. 20 |
| It is finally happening, I'm opening my photography gallery in Bedminster, NJ. It has been something that I've wanted to do for a long time and the everything is finally coming together. I've had the space for a few months and wanted to make sure everything is perfectly right before opening to the public. There will be plenty of tweaks ahead but I'm feeling good about everything. I have been selling my work at art festivals all over the East Coast the last several years and that is tricky. Lots of expensive art gets ruined while traveling around so I didn't want to do high end frames with museum glass. But now that I won't have to pack it up every weekend, I'm adding beautiful frames that I get custom made in Philadelphia. I can now make my own prints up to 44 inches wide and do the mounting so I'll have a lot more flexibility. The gallery will be open Wednesdays through Sundays.

I had a great weekend chasing lighthouses along the coast of Maine for another fun workshop. We photographed 10 lighthouses and drove lots of miles while making some great photos. One of my favorite locations is Marshall Point, the lighthouse where Forrest Gump finished his run. The clouds were amazing after the sun went down and I lit up the scene with my flashlight to give us a unique view. We had a bit of a rising tide adventure, I won't go into it here, you have to read about it on my blog! |
| | Free seminar series There are lots of photography questions I get asked frequently so I'm doing a series of monthly free seminars to help people make better images. The seminars are at my gallery but they also are live online using a high end video conferencing service so anyone can see my computer screen and ask questions. Each session is recorded so you can always watch later. This month's topic is called Chimping, Blinkies and Histograms and I'll talk about what your camera tells you when you look at your shot on the back of the camera. Iceland Winter Workshop Now that summer is over I'm dreaming of heading back to Iceland during the beautiful winter season. I've made five trips to Iceland in less than two years and can't wait to get there next year in February and again in August. I go to some of the same places during the winter and summer because it is amazing to see how different they look. I can't decide when I like it better, but then I guess I don't really need to pick! Winter is so interesting because you can see the Northern Lights and go into wonderfully beautiful ice caves. I'm not the kind of person who loves to get cold and even though it would seem like going as far north as Iceland in February would be crazy, the temperatures where I go are about the same as New York City at that time of year. The highs are in the 30's and low in the 20's each night. It is a magical place. I still have openings for both the winter workshop and summer workshop. |
| | Another journey to New YorkMy New York City workshops sell out fast and if I promote them a couple of weeks before my monthly newsletter comes out some people can't get in. So I have one scheduled for Nov. 16 that I haven't promoted yet so you have a chance to enjoy a fun trip to New York with me. We'll visit New York's newest attraction, the Vessel, then go on the High Line and over to Brooklyn for a classic night shot of the city reflected in the river. Like all of my tours and workshops, I provide local transportation and drop you off as close as possible to each shooting location. In New York my buddy and fellow pro photographer Ron Lake drives my 12-passenger Sprinter van so we can concentrate on the photography and he either finds a nearby parking place or runs back and gets the van for us. It is a great to way to get around the city and photograph some special places. Read more |
