Recalls

There have been a number of pet food and medication recalls in the news lately, and I thought it would be wise to update you.

Virbac recalls Iverhart Max Chewable heartworm tablets
----------------------------------------------------------

Virbac is recalling Lot #110482 (Large, 50.1 – 100 lbs) of IVERHART MAX Chewable Tablets. Tests determined that the ivermectin (an active ingredient) has failed to meet the company’s required stability specifications, which means that some dogs dosed with the lot may not be fully protected against heartworm disease.

To date, no heartworm-related adverse events have been reported due to this lot of product. For potentially infected dogs, veterinarians should contact Virbac Technical Services at 800-338-3659, extension 3052.

Diamond Dog Food Recall
--------------------------

Diamond Pet Foods has recalled their Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal and Rice Dog Food. 

The food may have been contaminated with Salmonella. No illness was reported, so this was a voluntary preventive recall.
