El-Amin brothers launch accelerator program in Green Bay, aim for Madison next
MILWAUKEE BUSINESS NEWS

Young Enterprising Society (YES) has deployed its Milwaukee-based accelerator model in Green Bay and has plans to take its programming to Madison next.

The Blueprint accelerator invests in startups and provides mentorship to founders throughout Milwaukee’s entrepreneurial ecosystem with an emphasis on supporting people of color, women and veterans.

The program, founded by brothers Que and Khalif El-Amin, has held six cohorts and supported dozens of local startups including washbnb, Safety4Her, Tip a ScRxipt and Carvd N Stone. Now the El-Amin’s are offering their accelerator to Green Bay area startups at Urban Hub, a co-working space in Green Bay’s downtown Rail Yard Innovation District...

Green Bay Packaging cuts ribbon on Wisconsin's first new paper mill in 30 years

GREEN BAY -- Green Bay Packaging ceremonially cut the ribbon on its new $500 million mill Thursday.

The mill located at 1601 North Quincy Street is the first new paper mill to be built in the state of Wisconsin in more than 35 years.The new mill replaces the original mill built in 1947.

Brown County's southern bridge project could accelerate with state budget motion

BROWN COUNTY -- The pace of the highly anticipated and long-debated southern bridge in Brown County could be accelerating.

A recently passed budget motion would direct more money to the project, but it's a proposal similar to one Governor Tony Evers vetoed in his budget two years ago.

The bridge would go through southern De Pere at Rockland Road on the east side and Red Maple Road on the west side. It would provide a quicker connection between southern Brown County and I-41....

Keel laid for future USS Cleveland at Marinette Marine

MARINETTE -- Construction on a new ship is underway in Marinette.

The keel was laid Wednesday for the future USS Cleveland during a ceremony at Fincantieri Marinette Marine.

“We are proud to build another proven warship that allows our Navy to carry out missions around the world," said Steven Allen, Lockheed Martin vice president of small combatants and ship systems, in a news release. "All of us at Lockheed Martin, including our hardworking team in Marinette, Wisconsin, look forward to working with the U.S. Navy to continue delivering highly capable and adaptable Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ships to the fleet.”.

State grant helps group trying to get Green Bay declared a national reserve

GREEN BAY -- A group hoping to get the bay of Green Bay named a national reserve received a big grant from the state Thursday.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is working with local and national agencies to get part of the bay named a “National Estuarine Research Reserve” (read Jeff Alexander’s report from March).

If the area receives the national reserve designation, it could bring in more than $1 million per year for research, education and training on how to continue protecting the area’s ecosystem....

Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new National Scenic Byway in Door County
