The first week of January saw the CES Consumer’s Electronic Show here in Las Vegas. For over 50 years, CES has set the global stage for innovation. There is always big news in healthcare innovation. We all know that the pandemic sped up the adoption of health technologies and services. Here are some interesting stats from the Consumer Technology Association®: since March of 2020, 20% of U.S. households used online health services for the first time, and 20% plan to continue using them in the next year, 25% of U.S. homes now own air purifiers, 23% have smart or connected health monitoring devices (my husband and I got each other a Fitbit for Christmas) and 19% have connected sports or fitness equipment (up 7% from 2020). | Many healthcare providers may have been too busy with the pandemic to visit Las Vegas this past week for CES 2022, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be interested. What happens in Vegas in this case may not stay in Vegas for long.
The announcement by Abbott Chairman Robert B. Ford of a new line of biometric wearables may have grabbed the headlines, but those devices—like pretty much everything else healthcare-related at CES—are targeted at the consumer-facing health and fitness crowd. It will take a while for providers to find a way to apply them to clinical care.
But there was a strong undercurrent of clinical care in this year's event, encouraged by the Consumer Technology Association's efforts to bridge the gap between consumers and providers. And healthcare executives would be wise to pay attention to the trends coming out of Sin City as they map out their digital health strategies.

| No two entrepreneurs have the same story. Some were born with “the gene,” and started lemonade stands early. Others found it later in life and leveraged the success and connections they built earlier in their careers to start new ventures. Then there are those who, like myself, started their first businesses out of their college dorm rooms.
Although aspiring entrepreneurs can take classes in business administration, accounting, and other essential disciplines, many of the most important lessons are learned on the job -- trying and failing and trying again.
While the following words of wisdom likely won’t appear in any textbook, I believe they are invaluable for any entrepreneur:
“How you climb a mountain is more important than reaching the top.” |

| One of the best ways to make your own life happier is to cheer someone else up and to make their life happier. Why? You simply see it. As the face of a family member, friend or co-worker lights up with joy you feel happier too.
You did something good. You will feel happier because you know deep down that you did a good thing and the right thing. And so your self-esteem will rise too.
You tend to get what you give in life. In the long run – over weeks, months and years – you usually will be treated by others as you treat them. Plus – and this is something I didn’t understand for quite some time – you also tend to treat and think about yourself as you think about and treat other people.
So, how can you cheer someone that is going through a tough time up and make their life happier today?
