POLICY NEWS
On Friday 21 April 2022 the European Parliament and Council published an explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal for a Regulation laying down harmonised rules on Artificial Intelligence (Artificial Intelligence Act).
The European Commission has published its Proposal for a Regulation on harmonised rules on fair access to and use of data, also known as the “Data Act”, on which stakeholders can provide short feedback until 14 May.
Interested candidates can submit their application through until 6 May.
The European Commission has opened a feedback period on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation (440/2008), which lists the approved methods for testing chemicals. The goal of updating this act is to reduce the amount of animal testing for chemicals.

In collaboration with the In Silico World (ISW) and SIMCor consortia, the VPH Institute has provided feedback to FDA on the draft guidance for Assessing the Credibility of Computational Modeling and Simulation in Medical Device Submissions.
NICE Talks is the podcast from UK's National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The podcast brings the stories behind NICE's work to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services through evidence-based guidance.
In May 2022, the CompBioMed Centre of Excellence will start its new webinar series on "Exascale for biomedical SMEs" organized with the endorsement of the VPH Institute and Avicenna Alliance.
This is a running collection with no formal deadline, but initial submissions are encouraged by August 1st 2022

EUROPEAN PROJECTS
The In Silico World consortium recently submitted a qualification advice request to the European Medicine Agency (EMA) for the so-called Bologna Biomechanical Computed Tomography (BBCT) methodology, developed by researchers at the University of Bologna. From 23 to 25 March, SimCardioTest organised its first General Assembly. Time was dedicated to share updates on each workpackage and use case advances. Intensive hands-on sessions were also organised to define the different potential applications and questions of interest for each use case, a key aspect in the Verification & Validation process.
In March 2022, SIMCor has finalised its methodology for generation and validation of virtual cohorts of animal models and human patients of aortic valve disease (AVD) and heart failure (HF).
Thanks to a joint work done by TU Graz and Leartiker, a constitutive model of scaffold materials usually adopted in tissue-engineered heart valves (TEHV) was developed as part of the research activity of SimInSitu project. From here, the required verification and validation activities will be performed to improve the credibility of in-silico for designing TEHV
