“They are not of the world, even as I am not of it” (John 17:17). 

How can we live in the world and not partake of its warped values and destructive paths? To reject these corruptions, we must establish a mindset that chooses all that God has for us. This mentality means we fully accept God’s guidelines and willingly obey His principles.

That determination matches these words: I have decided to follow Jesus; I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back.

Notice the words “I have decided.” Down deep within us, we determine to make an unbendable rule to follow Jesus. The distractions of this world are many, but we daily focus on serving Him and walk in His truths. Someone once said, You don’t honor God’s Word until you live it. 

We who are born of the Spirit are not of this world. We have been forgiven and set free. We look toward His heavenly kingdom. With this conviction, we can ask God to guard our hearts against the evil enticements of Satan. We are not left powerless. He effectively works in and through believers. So call on that powerful name–Jesus. 

Shortly before His death, Jesus prayed to His Father about those who believe: “They are not of this world any more than I am. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world” (John 17:16, NIV). 

So then, what’s your attitude?
