Today's Devotional
Revival is Just a Word Away
By Karen Pourbabaee

"Remember the Word and promise to Your servant, in which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: that Your Word has revived me and given me life." Psalm 119: 49-50 Amplified Bible

The Word of God contains His promises. A rich storehouse of blessings. Truth to live by. A light for our path. We need the Word to both navigate and survive. In Psalm 119:49-50 we see the Word bringing three things to our lives: hope, comfort, and revival.

Hope is a vision of the Word. "…through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." (Romans 15:4) Hope is an anchor for our souls. (Hebrews 6:19) Hope looks to the future. "If we do not hope, we will not see what lies beyond our hope." (St. Clement of Rome) Receiving hope is the first baby step toward revival, only possible when the Word births hope in our souls.

Comfort is a gift of the Word. But one must seek the Word and continually bring it to remembrance, then it becomes a gift that keeps on giving. Psalm 119:52 explains, "When I have earnestly recalled Your ordinances of old, O Lord, I have taken comfort." This limitless comfort is a free gift for the taking as we remember His Word. It sustains us on the journey to revival.

Revival is the goal of the Word. It brings restoration, renewal, resurrection. New life. Whatever you are walking through, be it physical, mental/emotional, or spiritual affliction, revival is just a Word away.

O Word of God, grant me hope, comfort, and revival in my affliction. Amen.
