Today's Devotional
Stepping Out - by Karen Pourbabaee

“Behold I stand at the door and knock…” Revelation 3:20 KJV

As disciples of Christ, discipline will undoubtedly knock at our door many times. It is the doorway to the deeper, fuller life. The way planned for us to become all God has created us to be. It’s our journey with Him…how we come to know Him and the hope of His calling. To learn the art of conforming to His image. So pack up and be ready to step out when that knock comes. Look at the blessings of discipline you will gather along the way:

1. Discipline leads to happiness…”Behold how happy is the man whom God reproves.” (Job 5:17)

2. Discipline results in godliness…”…discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness, for bodily discipline is of little profit but godliness is profitable for all things since it holds the promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy 4:7)

3. Discipline allows us to share in His holiness…”…He disciplines us for our own good that we may share in His holiness.”(Hebrews 12:10)

4. Discipline delivers us from adversity…”Blessed is the man Thou dost chasten, O Lord. And dost teach out of Thy Law. That Thou mayest grant him relief from the days of adversity.” (Psalm 94:12)

5. Discipline produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness…”All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful… to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” (Hebrews 12:11)

Lord, give me that gentle and submissive spirit that smiles when discipline arrives at my door, knowing all the blessings awaiting me as I step out with You at my side. Amen.
