REGULATORY INTELLIGENCE IN THE GAMING SECTOR

Though most regulators have multiple hurdles to overcome in order to successfully implement intelligence practices; once embedded, intelligence can be used to influence future orientated strategies, predict intent, identify trust and harm thresholds in regulated entities, enhance relationships with law enforcement and influence/inform targeting and resource decisions around non-compliant or at-risk behaviours. With many regulators wanting to move towards becoming more proactive and futures focused, intelligence is a critical component in forging a way forward.

Anne-Maree Quarmby, COO of Intelligence Rising, discusses the benefits and barriers to the implementation of intelligence in gaming regulation.

Overtime, this has resulted in the role of the intelligence analyst being conflated with the role of ‘data analyst’.

ITL: THE INTERFACE BETWEEN REGULATOR, SUPPLIER AND OPERATOR

Before the proliferation of regulated gaming, testing was generally conducted by gaming regulators themselves, and some still do.

The global nature of the gaming industry, the pace of technology evolution and the speed with which equipment can be approved to maintain a competitive balance with neighbouring jurisdictions, means that individual jurisdictions are no longer able to dedicate the resources required to perform this important role.

André Wilsenach, from an independent testing laboratory (ITL), examines for IAGR the role between the ITL and regulators, suppliers and operators.

The globe is changing at an increasing pace and decisions can no longer be made considering only the world as it is; a key component of future decision-making must include the world as it will be.  Is this possible in the gambling industry?

Igor Rus, from a leading independent software supplier to the gaming industry, believes so. Talking with IAGR, Igor discusses how regulators can increase the efficacy and accuracy of their approaches through monitoring and control implemented with the assistance of the proper technology.
