Seeing Christ in Christmas
Bob Higginbotham

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. ” (John 8:12 KJV )

It is once again time to celebrate the birth of our Savior. The Christmas season involves many traditional activities. Some are religious in nature while others are not seen as having any religious significance. They have just become a part of celebrating the season over time. Christians, however, as new creatures dwelling in God’s creation, find great significance in some of these traditional activities.

As we get into the spirit of the Christmas season, we have a greater desire to reach out to others by sharing what we have and, like Christ, offering hands of servitude.

I recall the excitement of going to the woods with my dad and cutting down a tree. That evergreen reminds me of the tree that was roughly hewn to form a cross on which my Savior died. I remember how we dragged it through the woods to the truck, and am reminded that Christ carried his cross.

Everyone helped decorate that tree with ornaments and beautiful lights. In doing this, I’m reminded that the Light of the World hung on a tree.

On Christmas Eve, we exchanged our gifts. I remember the love that accompanied each one, and I knew that all I had to do was accept them and say, “Thank you." Of course, this is commemorative of the greatest and most loving gift ever given -- the gift of eternal life through God’s only son.

Bob is in His service in Mississippi. He wishes all a very blessed and Merry Christmas. Contact
