| | | | | | - Eugenie Diserio was amused and delighted to read an article in her alumnae newspaper (Temple University) about her current exhibition Reboot at The Mayor's Gallery, Stamford. "Alumna reinvents herself by exploring new media" celebrates this "former rock band musician and astrologer [who] is exhibiting her new artworks in Connecticut." Eugenie's exhibit runs through Feb. 28.

| | - Joyce Grasso, a Maine native who settled in Fairfield County almost 40 years ago, had her Spring Arrived (acrylic on canvas, 36x48; Portland Art Gallery) selected for her inclusion as one of 88 artists included in the annual, juried Art Maine 2020 catalog.

| | | | | | | | BEECHWOOD ARTS DO OR DIE VISUAL ARTS SUBMISSIONS JANUARY 26
The Westport Library is hosting three events in Beechwood Arts' Winter season on the theme of Do and Die, reflecting Beethoven's crisis and response to his deafness. The first event is an art exhibit on this theme, exploring the path of visual artists who have faced a significant personal or creative crisis that called everything into question, and where that turning point pushed the artist forward on a journey where they reached beyond their own boundaries and beyond the rules of their genre, forging new paths and finding their creative lifework in the process. If you want to be part of this exhibit, the work you submit does not have to illustrate your journey, but should be in the style of your newly discovered "lifework." To apply: 1. Register here and pay the $10 fee. 2. Email images of up to 3 works. 3. Include a) full description of each work; and b) Up to 250-word telling of your “Do or Die” story. Full details here. | | SUSTAINABLE CT COMMUNITY MATCH FUND ARTISTS CAN APPLY
Artists can apply directly for grants to match money raised on an ioby crowdfunding site for broadly sustainable art projects. Sustainable CT is a statewide municipal certification program that inspires and supports communities to become more vibrant, connected, healthy, and resilient. Its Community Match Fund is a fast, flexible, low-barrier funding resource that makes it possible for everyone in a community to play a vital role in effecting the change that Sustainable CT promotes. Here's how to do it: 1. Contact Sustainable CT to discuss your project. 2. Send a brief project description, timeline and basic budget. 3. Your project will be reviewed and you will hear back within 5 business days. 4. Once approved you will get help to set up your ioby crowdfunding page. More information. |
| | SILVERMINE ARTS CENTER FIBER 2020 FEBRUARY 9
Silvermine Galleries announces that applications are being accepted for Fiber2020, April 4-May 15, 2020. Fiber2020 seeks to exhibit the best of contemporary fiber art. Submissions are invited that reflect the breadth of functional or non-functional works that use fiber and/or fiber art techniques in traditional or innovative ways. Works made from natural or high tech materials that reference fiber and that blur the lines between art, architecture and craft are welcome. Open to all artists, 18 years of age and older, residing in the United States. Original artwork in any media will be considered. Eligible artwork must have been completed after January 1, 2018, and fall within the restrictions. The juror is Beth C. McLaughlin, Chief Curator of Exhibitions and Collections at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, who has has held leadership and curatorial roles in the arts and museum fields for over 25 years at institutions across the U.S., including Oakland Museum of California, and DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. Entry Fee – $45 for up to 5 entries. To be considered for the Best in Show Award, artists are required to enter a minimum of three works. Complete the FIBER 2020 entry form here.

| | DARIEN ARTS CENTER PIC DARIEN FEBRUARY 29
The Darien Arts Center is announcing the return of its annual smartphone photo contest, Pic Darien, which will be accepting entries at darienarts.org through February 29th. Adults (18 and up) and Students (17 and under) may submit their smartphone photos for cash prizes in 10 categories: Darien Bicentennial; Landscapes; Seascapes; People; Pets; Sports; Architecture; Food and Drink; Abstract; and Nature & Flora. The contest is open to all; there are no age restrictions and contestants are not required to live in Darien. Winners will be notified in April and all entries will be showcased in the 2020 Pic Darien slideshow. The Darien Arts Center is located at 2 Renshaw Road, behind the Darien Town Hall. | | RIDGEFIELD GUILD OF ARTISTS ANNUAL MEMBER JURIED SHOW FEBRUARY 29
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists announces that applications are now being accepted for its 10th Annual Member Juried Show. The show is open to all Ridgefield Guild of Artists members age 16 and older. Artists may submit up to 5 works. Non-members may join prior to submitting their entries by going here. Anyone who submits without being a member in good standing will be asked to join or renew, no refunds will be issued. Fees are $20 for the first entry and $10 for each additional piece up to 5, payable by credit card via EntryThingy. The Juror: Adrienne Ruger Conzelman is the founder and director of ARC Fine Art, a private contemporary art gallery in Fairfield, CT. | | RENE SOTO GALLERY SMALL IS THE NEW BIG MARCH 16
The Rene Soto Gallery announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, Small is the New Big, to run April 9 – May 7, 2020. Original art will be accepted in any two-dimensional or three-dimensional media no larger than 14 inches by 16 inches including frame, created in the last 2 years, and not exhibited previously at Rene Soto Gallery. Media include: painting, fiber art, mixed-media, photography, drawing, printmaking, pastels, and 3D bas-relief artwork created to be hung on a wall. Sculpture is accepted, if the artist supplies their own stand or the work is free standing. The juror is Benjamin Casiano, an accomplished creative director, designer, curator, painter, and native New Yorker, who received his BFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He has exhibited in major cities in the U.S., France and Holland, and his work is hanging in corporations and in the homes of private collectors in the U.S. and abroad. A Fee of $35 for up to 3 entries; $5 for each additional entry up to 6. Gallery takes a 40% commission. Awards will be given for Best in Show, Second and Third place and Honorable Mention. | | | | MILFORD ARTS COUNCIL MEET ME AT THE BENCH FEBRUARY 21
The Milford Arts Council (the MAC) has been funded by the CT Office of the Arts to organize an installation of six unique benches, re-imagined as artistic and community experiences throughout downtown Milford.The project, Meet Me at the Bench calls for creatives, artists, and craftsmen to work with engineers, architects, woodworkers, metal-forgers, tile-layers, masons, craftsmen, and other artisans who exhibit artistic excellence, ingenuity and inspiration to imagine unique creations. A committee of local artists, city representatives, downtown businesses, and service organizations will review submissions and match them to sites. Six locations have been suggested. Deadline for submission is February 21st. Final selection by the committee will be awarded by late March, leaving about 4-months for fabrication. Installations by the city will take place during the summer and early fall of 2020. Projects must be designed to withstand the elements and public use for at least 3-5 years, with little or no maintenance. Click here for full RFP |
