Melrose Commons, New Supportive Housing Program, Opens in the Bronx
|
| | The Bridge's newest permanent supportive housing program, Melrose Commons, has opened in the Bronx. |

| | The 58 unit building opened its doors to tenants late this spring. Residents live in furnished studio apartments and have access to a variety of onsite services, including 24 hour staffing, case management, peer support, and connection to community resources. The program also provides therapeutic and life skills groups to help residents, all of whom previously resided in shelters or on the streets, successfully transition to apartment living and to create a sense of community in the building. |
| | The backyard at Melrose Commons includes picnic tables, a ping pong table, and a grill for community barbecues.

| The program is designed to be a permanent home for men and woman who have a history of chronic homelessness and a diagnosis of a serious mental illness. Preference is given to veterans who meet this criteria. |

The Bridge's Urban Farming Program is now on Instagram!

| | The Bridge's urban farms are having a great season! Despite the heavy rains and high temperatures we experienced this summer, we're growing lots of great produce, including peaches, grapes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, kale, collard greens, lettuce, and turnips. We're also holding cooking workshops, so program participants learn how to put the garden's yield to use. So far, we've made pesto, cucumber sandwiches, and peach cobbler!

| | Partners in Caring Awards Gala Raises Over $640,000 for Bridge Programs |
| On Tuesday, June 5th, nearly 400 New Yorkers from the real estate, business, banking, and nonprofit sectors gathered at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to celebrate The Bridge’s 64 years of service and honor our 2018 awardees.

The Curtis Berger Award went to Gary Hattem, who during his time as president of the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation directed over $3 billion of investment into underserved communities. Leslie Jamison, academic and bestselling author, received the Partners in Caring Inspiration Award for her work on addiction and recovery.
This year’s Gala raised more than $640,000, making it our most successful yet. We very much appreciate everyone’s support for the residential, behavioral health, and social rehabilitation programs that serve over 2,800 of the most vulnerable New Yorkers every year.

| On July 12, more than 50 friends and supporters of The Bridge gathered to celebrate the beginning of construction at our newest residence, the 3500 Park Avenue Apartments.

Located in the Claremont Village section of The Bronx, 3500 Park Avenue Apartments will offer 115 units of integrated supportive and affordable housing in an eco-friendly seven-story building. On-site case management services and programming will support 69 residents including homeless veterans with disabilities, homeless frail/disabled seniors, and chronically homeless adults living with mental illness.
Forty-six units will provide affordable housing to low-income seniors and families living at or below 60% of area median income. The building will have 24/7 front desk coverage and will feature energy efficiencies including solar panels.

This Spring, volunteers from SiteCompli spruced up Old Broadway House, which is home to a transitional housing program, a respite bed program, and our Aging Services team. Volunteers painted inside and out, put flowers in beautiful new planters, and held activity groups with clients in the building. Thank you SiteCompli for your support and hard work!
