It’s A Skin Thing - by Antje Hill

“But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.” I Peter 3:15 (NET)

Lightening flooded Jimmy’s room, as the thunder came closer. He started to cry and pulled his blanket over his head. Dad quietly opened the door to check on his son. He saw Jimmy crouched in the corner of his bed, under the pile of covers. “It’s o.k., Jimmy. The storm will soon pass. God is watching over us.” Jimmy fell into his Dad’s arms, “I know God is watching over us, Daddy, but I needed for someone with skin to be here.”

Are we not like Jimmy at times? We need comfort and hope in times of fear, sadness or loneliness. Mature Christians know our Heavenly Father never leaves us or forsakes us. But it’s a blessing to have a friend put an arm around us and say, “You are going to make it through this problem.”

God tells us to be ready to tell of the hope that is in us. This hope can bring life to people who have given up, people who see no light at the end of the tunnel. We Jesus lovers have untapped power, not of ourselves, but from Our Redeemer, the Hope giver. He wants us to be the skin that shows up for those who lose their way. What a difference a Christian makes, when we let Christ shine! He is Hope, and hope shared, in person, is a powerful thing!
