Client Art Debuts at Renovated Gallery M |
|
This winter, The Bridge and Weston United debuted their first joint client art show at Gallery M.
|
|
| Gallery M is a small gallery space operated by Weston United since 1986, where artwork created by clients and other members of the community is shown and sold, and where clients gather together to socialize and create art. This fall, the gallery underwent a renovation to improve the layout and aesthetics of the space. |
|

| The latest show, entitled Community, features work from clients in The Bridge's outpatient substance abuse program and Weston United's Transitional Living Community, a long-stay shelter for people with mental illness.
An opening for the show, which was curated by the client artists with assistance from our staff, was held on January 31st. Staff and friends of the artists gathered at Gallery M to offer congratulations, view the inspiring works of art, and hear the client artists speak about their work. |

| Community is on view at Gallery M (123 West 135th Street, between Malcolm X and Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvds) until February 23rd. The gallery is open Tuesdays from 9 to 4, Wednesdays from 9 to 4, and Thursdays from 1 to 7, or by appointment. |

Construction is Underway on Two New Supportive Housing Projects |
|
| Construction on The Bridge's two newest permanent supportive housing programs has progressed significantly since our groundbreaking ceremonies this summer! Work began in August on Maple Street Residence and in July on Melrose Commons, and the buildings are beginning to take shape. |
|
|
|
Once completed, Melrose Commons, in the Bronx, will house 58 chronically homeless adults with a serious mental illness, with a preference for veterans. Maple Street Residence, in Brooklyn, will house 50 adults with a serious mental illness and 16 low-income individuals and families from the community.
Both programs are expected to be operational by the summer of 2018. |

Volunteers Bring Holiday Cheer to Bridge Clients |

| Volunteers helped make this holiday season extra-special for The Bridge's clients. |

Volunteers brought live holiday music to the residents at East Harlem House and 111th Street Residence
|
|
| In addition to the regularly scheduled volunteer-run groups and activities taking place at our residences, we were able to provide additional programming during the holidays with the help of our volunteers.
Volunteers held holiday gatherings at a number of our residences, including at Park West House, where staff from Magnusson Architecture and Planning brought sweet treats and gifts for everyone to enjoy. Clients at our East Harlem House and 111th Street Residence were treated to live holiday music, including a sing-a-long.
These activities supplemented The Bridge's own efforts during the holiday season. This can be a difficult time of year for our clients, many of whom lack family and social supports. To reinforce the sense of community at all of our programs, each Bridge residence holds a holiday celebration. |
