Explore the Potential of the Centre for Microbial Chemical Biology (CMCB)

The Centre for Microbial Chemical Biology is a 12,000 square foot, multi-user lab facility associated with the Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research. Check out the website to learn more about the advanced facility, which features six integrated labs that provide research support, hands-on training, and services in chemistry and biology.

IIDR Members Find Association Between High-Risk Sexual Behaviour and Women’s Reproductive Health

In their recent publication, IIDR principal investigator Dr. Charu Kaushic and her postdoctoral fellow Dr. Jocelyn Wessels may have found a biological link between high-risk sexual behaviours like sex work and an increased risk of acquiring human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

B. subtilis LytR-CpsA-Psr Enzymes Transfer Wall Teichoic Acids from Authentic Lipid-Linked Substrates to Mature Peptidoglycan In Vitro

The assemblage of glycopolymers within the peptidoglycan cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria is crucial for viability and pathogenesis. However, the molecular process by which this function is executed is poorly understood. In Dr. Eric Brown’s most recent publication in Cell Chemical Biology, Ph.D. candidate Robert Gale and colleagues shed light on the molecular features of glycopolymer transfer, with the aim of aiding drug discovery and development programs which exploit this antibacterial target.

IIDR’s Dr. Charu Kaushic Receives Prestigious American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award

IIDR’s Dr. Charu Kaushic, professor within the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and OHTN Applied HIV Research Chair, has recently received the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award. This award, which is one of the highest awards from the American Society of Reproductive Immunology, (ASRI) is presented annually to a senior investigator who has made outstanding contributions to the area of reproductive immunology. Learn more about the ASRI below. Congratulations, Charu!
