ADFF:NY kicks off next week!

The festival is more than just films. There are great speakers following many of the screenings, and the festival lounge is a cool and comfortable place to hang out during the festival. The bar is always open, with luxurious seating by Vitra and Suite NY. Plus, the AIA Film Challenge winning short films will be shown in the lounge.

What’s more, there will be a pop-up book store by Head Hi and a pop-up by American Design Club. And, our presenting sponsor, Eventscape, will have a display of recently-created custom fabrications.

Featured speakers following the films...
Designer Debbie Millman, host of the award-winning podcast Design Matters and co-founder and chair of the world’s first “Masters in Branding Program” at the School of Visual Arts will be in conversation with Alysa Nahmias, director of The New Bauhaus. Alysa’s first film, Unfinished Spaces. was the opening night film at ADFF:NY 2013. The conversation will follow the world premiere of The New Bauhaus at the opening night screening. Tickets for this screening include ADFF’s opening night party across the street at Cinepolis Chelsea. Don’t miss the fun.

Renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta will be at the US premiere of Mario Botta: The Space Beyond. Mr. Botta will be on hand for a Q&A directly following the screening. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from the master about his work on sacred buildings.

Interior Design’s executive editor, Annie Block will moderate a Q&A with Loretta Dalpozzo and Michèle Volontè, the filmmakers who made Mario Botta: The Space Beyond.

Architect Giovanna Borasi is chief curator at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). She will be at ADFF for a Q&A following the world premiere of What It Takes to Make a Home. The film looks at the role architects have in addressing homelessness, the first in a series of films the museum is creating.

This screening is co-presented by the Canadian Consulate.

Wendy Goodman, NY Magazine’s design editor will have a conversation with Sean Anderson, MoMA’s architecture and design curator, and filmmaker Boris Bertram after the screening of The Human Shelter. The film explores the subject of what makes a home.

This fascinating film investigates why we can’t afford to live in our own cities anymore. Housing is a fundamental human right and pre-condition to a safe and healthy life. But in cities around the world, having a place to live is becoming more and more difficult. Who are the players and what are the factors that make housing one of today’s most pressing world issues?
