WEDC grant helps Ripon urban vertical farm grow

A state grant will help the City of Ripon renovate a vacant former grocery store into an indoor urban vertical farm produce operation with the potential for retail operations and a future rooftop garden.

The $190,000 in funding from the Community Development Investment grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will support the expansion of Ernessi Farms’ urban vertical farm produce operation. Ernessi Farms sells products to local and regional grocery stores and restaurants.

Construction begins on Navy ship named after Wisconsin city

Construction on a new Navy combat ship began Wednesday in Marinette.

Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri Marinette Marine began work on the future USS Beloit.

As part of a ship-building tradition, a worker welded the initials of the ship's sponsor, Retired Major General Marcia Anderson, into the keep plate.

The plate will be affixed to the ship and travel with it throughout its commissioned life.

The town of Sheboygan has set aside over 500 acres of space to encourage new economic developments.

The town created its first tax incremental district, or TID, and it stretches to all sides of the intersection of Interstate 43 and State 42 and covers 509 acres northwest of the Quarry Beach Adventure Park stretching to Miesfeld's Triangle Market.

Construction continues on Michels' Corp.'s $100 million development in Milwaukee's Harbor District, a project that will bring several hundred employees, retail, housing and hotel to the area.
