Updates for the month of April
While we at the National Zakat Foundation Australia (NZF) continue our mission to increase awareness about everything Zakat and its positive impact on the local Australian Muslim community, we give thanks to Allah, the Merciful, for His blessings (Barakah) and good fortune (Tawfeek) in granting us the most supportive contributors and volunteers.

We have been working relentlessly to battle poverty and improve the welfare of Muslims across Australia. Our journey is driven by our passion to revive Islam's third pillar of Zakat and in turn help improve the livelihood of all members of the Muslim community.

With every case assist, we hope to introduce positive change and build bridges to bring us closer to our Creator and the local Muslim community hoping to gain rewards in this world and the Hereafter.

As we farewell a summer full of action and blessings we are now working hard to prepare for the winter season. With your Zakat and contributions we will extend the warmth of our lifeline support to many Australian Muslim households and individuals in need.

Held in a casual setting, NZF organised a comprehensive session covering topics such as Zakat, Superannuation, Wasiyah and Burial rites.

Increasing awareness and educating seekers of knowledge about  Zakat related matters is an important function of NZF.

4. West Australia Activities

Perth Family Day

Organised by the Islamic Center WA and Perth Ummah Centre, this event caters to a large portion of the Muslim families residing in Perth.

Our NZF team had a great time reconnecting with previous clients, reaching out to new ones, providing further information and advice on topics and queries related to Zakat.

5. Victoria Activities

Participating in the First Halal Expo in Melbourne

It was lovely to see a wide range of Islamic entertainment, amusements and celebrity appearances.

With thousands of visitors attending the Expo, it was a great opportunity for NZF to engage with the Muslim community offering invaluable information and advice on everything Zakat related.

We look Forward to participating in Halal Expo Australia 2017.

6. Queensland Activities

Garden City Mosque Open Day

This event took place at the 'Toowoomba International Food Festival'.

The Garden City Mosque is known to be one of the largest Muslim refugee centres in Queensland and, NZF found this to be a great opportunity to reach out to potential Zakat receivers to let them know we're here to help.

Would you like to enter the month of Ramadan on a real high and have the effects of this beautiful month be a permanent impact on your life thereafter?  Here's a 5 week plan to help you get ready and make the best of this holy month.
Week 1:  Get Yourself Motivated- Start with making Dua'

Recite the following dua’ repeatedly throughout the day and every day leading up to Ramadan.

"Allahumma barik lana fi Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan"

When the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) sighted the moon of Rajab (two months before Ramadan) he used to pray to Allah in the following words:
"Allahumma barik lana fi Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan"
O Allah! Make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan (i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings) [Narrated by at-Tabarani and Ahmad]
You can also listen to Islamic lectures on your way to work or School. Choose a scholar and topic that you feel will motivate you and get your heart in the right state.
Week 2: Build up the Habit in 'Fasting & Prayers'

Start making up the qada then fast as many days as possible in Shaban.

"I asked Aishah about the fasting of the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam). She said: ‘He used to fast until we thought he would always fast. And he used to not fast until we thought he would always not fast. I never saw him fast more in any month than in shaban. He used to fast all of shaban; he used to fast all of shaban except a little.’" Sahih

Start to pray Qiyam ul-Layl after ‘Isha, Start getting up for Tahajjud; you only need to wake up half an hour before you normally would for Fajr.
Week 3: Recite and Reflect Upon the Qur’an

Allocate a certain amount of Qur’an to read every day and ensure that you read this amount regularly.
Get a  translation and a Tafsir book in your local language to help you better understand the Qur’an and  get closer to Allah.
Week 4: Make Tawbah Nasooha

We all make mistakes, but Alhamdulilah we can always repent.
The Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said: “All the children of Adam constantly err, but the best of those who constantly err are those who constantly repent.” (Tirmidhi)
Week 5:Think About Charity and allocate your 'Zakat & Sadaqah’

Think of ways you can benefit your community and the ummah with charitable acts.
Be imaginative, try and involve as many people as you can and remember that even the smallest act of kindness counts as charity.
We also encourage you to calculate your Zakat ,if you are due to pay it, and allocate the amount you want to pay for Sadaqah in Ramadan and set it aside.

As you do so, make an effort to read about the plight of those less fortunate than ourselves. This will have the two-fold effect of making you grateful for what you have and wanting to do more for charity.
