Each
year we are astonished and pleased by how many films are created around the world that are
potential candidates for screening at our events.
After previewing over 200 films we have narrowed it down to one great festival, 17 film programs and over 30 films
that should satisfy everybody's taste for design. We can't wait to share the films that have been selected for
this year’s festival—our 8th! Here are a few of the upcoming 2016 films
which you'll hear more about in the coming newsletters. |

ADFF
will kick off this
year's festival with Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw
the Future, a film
that examines the life and work of Finnish-American
architectural giant Eero Saarinen. The film follows Director
of Photography Eric Saarinen on a cathartic journey as he
visits his father's visionary buildings from the St. Louis Gateway Arch to the
TWA Flight Center. Shot in 6K with the latest drone technology, the film
showcases Eero's influential body of work that stands apart from the
clutter of contemporary design and continues to inspire architects today.

| Workplace (World Premiere)

Directed by Gary Hustwit
Workplace is a documentary film about the past,
present, and future of the office – a place where hundreds of millions of human
beings spend billions of hours every day. The film follows the design and
construction of the New York headquarters of R/GA, where the company and
architects Foster + Partners explore the intersection of digital and physical
space. It looks at the thinking and experimentation involved in trying to
create the next evolution of what the office could be.

Where Architects Live is an exploration into the
private spaces of eight protagonists of world architecture: Shigeru Ban, Mario
Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano Fuksas, Zaha Hadid, Marcio Kogan,
Daniel Libeskind and Studio Mumbai. This is an opportunity to venture in and
see what these designers create with no clients to consider, only their
personal choices on the spaces they chose to call home.

This multi-media art piece created by Elizabeth Lennard
will be a part of the MoMA exhibit How Should We Live? Propositions for the Modern
Interior (Oct. 1 – April 23,
2017). ADFF will offer a unique opportunity to see this
on a large screen followed by a conversation with Juliet Kinchin, Curator of Modern Design at MoMA, Elle Decor's Joseph Giovannini, and Artist/Director Elizabeth Lennard.
Talking House is a 40-minute montage of Villa E-1027 filmed
today, Eileen Gray’s 1929 photographs of the villa and recently restored Le Corbusier
film footage.

The Architecture & Design Film Festival is presented by A/D/O – a 23,000 square-foot design center opening in Greenpoint, Brooklyn this fall. Tailored for design professionals, but open to all, it aims to be a platform for developing talent and a prolific source of new ideas for the future. A/D/O is an initiative of MINI and part of the company's exploration of innovations that improve urban life. |

ADFF New Orleans 2016
This past
weekend ADFF and the Louisiana Architecture
Foundation presented our first festival in New Orleans. It was a great success and many
people came out despite the state-wide flooding. A
wide range of people attended including Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and one of New Orleans' most celebrated architects, Albert Ledner. Many New Yorkers know Ledner's work because he designed a
few iconic buildings in Manhattan including the former St Vincent’s Hospital on 7th Avenue and the National Maritime Union on 9th
Avenue which is now The Maritime Hotel.
