HALF TERM FUN FOR KIDS AT THE 38th CAMBRIDGE FILM FESTIVAL
Cambridge, Tuesday, October 16TH 2018 - The Cambridge Film Festival returns for it’s 38th edition later this month.
As part of the wider Festival and running from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th October the ever-popular Family Film Festival will offer a programme of free short films, family-friendly features at the pocket-money price of £4 each for adults and children, and free workshops to entertain children and adults of all ages.
Exploring the topics of Space, Family and Sustainability the programme will include; E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, Steven Spielberg’s touching tale of a homesick alien which remains a piece of movie magic for young and old; WALL-E, the small waste-collecting robot who inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind; MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO, the beautiful and enchanting animation from Studio Ghibli; KEDI a heartwarming documentary exploring the ancient city of Istanbul through the eyes of cats; as well as the UK premiere of THE WITCH HUNTERS, the story of 10-year-old Jovan, his new classmate Milica, and their adventure to hunt her ‘witch’ stepmother.
In partnership with Cambridge Assessment, the Festival will team up with local organisations to provide free activities, workshops and events to excite, educate and amaze.
On Thursday 25th under the theme of space, Mundi Pharma will help kids to discover which bits of the brain process sight & sound in a brain hats workshop, and students from Anglia Ruskin University will be making a short film, teaching children how to use the camera and sound equipment in a filmmaking workshop.
Opportunities to live more sustainable lives on Friday 26th will come with the help of Amey where kids will be able to plant a spring bulb using a pot they will make themselves and fill it with soil improver made from garden and food waste collected from the green bins. There will also be a repair cafe for broken toys where children can bring: consoles, mechanical toys, gaming devices, teddies and dolls or electronic toys to be fixed, encouraging a love of toys and a hate of waste.
BAFTA Kids will be in attendance on Saturday 27th to present four episodes of Cartoon Network’s wildly imaginative animated series, SUMMER CAMP ISLAND, including a Q&A with the British creator Julia Potts. There will even be a chance to win Cartoon Network goodies in a competition for kids and adults hosted by Nigel Clarke, presenter of the Ben 10 Challenge.
Accompanying films about family on Sunday 28th, children can learn about DNA with CRUK where they will extract DNA from a strawberry to make a DNA bracelet, as well as have fun with Kettle’s Yard for an artist-led creative activity, exploring some of the feline subjects from their collection.
Back by popular demand is the entertaining show for kids and adults of all ages COMEDY FOR KIDS WITH NEIL BRAND which celebrates some of the greatest comics in silent cinema all accompanied by Neil, the fastest pianist in the business. This special show will delight audiences on Saturday 27th in the Queen's Building at Emmanuel College.
