| | On May 16th, ADFF had a beautiful en plein air screening of the Danish film, The Human Shelter. The evening was complemented by a full moon and perfect late spring temperature. On the shore of the Pacific Ocean in Chile, a young architect, who narrates this contemplative voyage, returns to the landscapes that are close to her heart. Here, she says, “where time becomes poetic,” is the land of Amereida, a poem written in Tierra del Fuego in 1967 that celebrates the new origin of America. Through this pilgrimage, she guides us on an architectural exploration to reveal a foreign territory where habitable space becomes poetic concept — a space where architecture re-creates the links between human beings and the world. A gentle voyage through the lands of Latin America.

This documentary takes the audience on a journey through the spectacular National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. With 100,000 square feet of exhibition space spread across eight levels, the museum explores America’s history and culture through the lens of the African American experience. Interviews with the project’s key figures give detailed insight into the challenges and conflicts during the formative stage of the museum and the overwhelming success during its first year of operation.

During his time in Southern California in the 1910s and early 1920s, Frank Lloyd Wright accelerated the search for an authentic L.A. architecture that might be experimental but also responsive to the city's history, culture and landscape. Writer/Director Christopher Hawthorne, architecture critic for the Los Angeles Times, explores the five Maya-inspired houses the legendary architect built in Los Angeles during that period. The documentary also delves into the critic's provocative theory that these designs were a means of artistic catharsis for Wright, who was recovering from a violent, tragic episode in his life.
