We’re Saved in Hope - Robert Schaetzle
“For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.” (Romans 8:24-25 NKJV)
Those of us who have been walking with our Lord for many years are far from where we started out in our journey, walking by faith with our Lord’s faithfulness upon us. We’ve come to learn the richness of His grace, to become more Christlike in our own character qualities. We are leaning on our Lord more and upon ourselves a lot less. This reflects what John the Baptist proclaimed, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30).
What we’re concerned about today is not our self-seeking interests, but we want to mature in our Lord by knowing and understanding promises of our hope not yet seen for us.
Many years ago when attending a week-long Bible seminar, the host challenged me to read the Bible at least five minutes a day. He went so far as to encourage me to make a vow to our Lord to read His Word daily. By making that promise, I have been blessed to develop a personal intimacy with God. To desire His way and wisdom is much greater than my own limited thinking.
That commitment has allowed me to know the treasure of His Lordship in my life and promises from my loving and compassionate Savior that I would have never understood if I had not read His Word.
