Announcements

This time of year seems to fly by with so many events and Holidays on our calendars.  I want to make sure to let you know about a few outstanding opportunities in the near future. For those nurses that are interested in a career as a speaker, especially in the LA area, I have 4 free tickets to James Malinchak’s Speaker’s Training Bootcamp in Los Angeles for December 8-11. James has been featured on ABC’s Secret Millionaire and always provides an outstanding educational conference with additional star power. This is the 5th time I am attending because two of my very favorite authors will be there; Brian Tracy, Legendary Speaker, Author, Trainer & Coach, and Jack Canfield, Co-Creator #1 Best-Selling Book Series Chicken Soup for the Soul, Author of The Success Principles & Star of the Movie, "The Secret". Just so you know, the NNBA has no financial interest in making this recommendation. I know firsthand of the amazing information provided and have blogged about meeting Leeza Gibbons and Joe Theisman here: http://unconventionalnurse.com/new-years-mission/ and http://unconventionalnurse.com/lunch-with-joe-theismann-what-a-way-to-start-football-season/.  You can let me know if you are interested in receiving a free ticket by replying to this newsletter.

Dr. Renee Thompson’s Medical Surgical Symposium is in San Diego February 16 & 17th and is designed to equip nurses with the latest clinical knowledge and professional skills needed to effectively care for today’s complex medical surgical patients. Experts in medical surgical patient care and professional development will present informative, up-to-date content on the topics that impact today’s nurse. Listen to what attendee: Elisa Romero, MSN, RN, CMSRN, Manager at Scripps Hospital in San Diego, CA has to say here: https://rtconnections.com/medsurg-symposium/
I highly recommend Donna Cardillo’s upcoming retreat, Empowered Nurse Enlightened Practice™. I have attended this marvelous event for the past two years. Whether your passion for nursing is fired up or has fizzled out, this event is for you! It has been created to empower, energize, and enlighten you for future success. And it is being offered in a setting that will provide an opportunity for relaxation, reassessment and planning, and recharging. Space is limited so register early! Valuable Web Presence

The NNBA continually strives to increase value for our members and with the Thanksgiving Holiday around the corner, it is an ideal time to announce a new benefit of membership: NNBA Members Web Page: NNBA members can have their own web page to promote themselves and their business. For nurses that don’t have a website, a web presence is a must in today’s digital age. People have to be able to find you, learn about your business and the products and services you have to offer. Veteran business owners that have a website will benefit from backlinks to your site. This benefit alone is worth well more than double the cost of membership. Just fill out the Web Presence Application form and within 3-5 business days, your webpage will be up!

This COO Shares His No. 1 Best Way to Advance

Inc.
“I want to start a business but I don’t have any money.” I hear this statement over and over again as I work with aspiring entrepreneurs. Many of them have sound ideas, but feel they need a lengthy business plan and a large amount of cash to get started. The reality is, most successful entrepreneurs end up bootstrapping their business. If you are passionate about what you are doing, there are always ways to get things done with limited resources. Here are five keys successful entrepreneurs use to build thriving companies.
Anyone can be an entrepreneur--if you have the ambition and drive, that is. So many people make excuses for not following their dreams. We've heard them all:

But I don't have money!

Nice try. After doing a million other odd jobs, John Paul DeJoria was sweeping up hair in a salon when he teamed up with a stylist. He borrowed and invested a mere $700 to found what is now Paul Mitchell. He is now one of the richest men in the world and has impeccable hair.
I noticed the conversations with one of my clients--Scott Moody, COO and CFO of the Bonten Media Group--often included discussions on his efforts to help his team with their professional development. He believes any business should invest in this process, and I interviewed him to share with others some of his most effective yet simplest practices.

When he told me how much support he gave his team, I could see where the loyalty and teamwork came from.
What makes a great developmental leader?
